Liposuction ( also referred as Lipo ) or Body Contouring, is a technique to remove extra body fat, slimming and reshaping different areas improving their contours and proportions. You can’t avoid proper diet and exercise with liposuction though. Liposuction doesn’t treat cellulite or saggy skin. Lipo requires an accurate pre-op clinical and instrumental evaluation ( laboratory tests, ECG, arteriovenous Doppler color ultrasound ), and a proper post-op drug therapy ( antibiotics and antithrombotic agents ), and has no more risks than other surgeries. The most common areas where liposuction is done are the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, waist, back, chest, upper arms, hips, inner knees; Lipo is also very helpful for extra fat at the cheeks, neck ( double chin ), and calves and ankles.
HOW LIPOSUCTION IS DONE
The liposuction and body contouring technique involves the infiltration in the involved fat compartment of a cold solution called Klein’s formula ( saline, lidocaine, a vasoconstrictor—epinephrine, and sodium bicarbonate ) at least equivalent to the amount of fat that is planned to be withdrawn. The only incisions are the ones to let the suction cannulas in, almost invisible in few months. Maximum results are obtained at six months after lipo. Liposuction could be done with local anesthesia in-office and day-surgery, or under sedation staying at the Hospital/Clinic overnight; Type of anesthesia and duration of the surgery depend on the amount of fat that is planned to be removed and where this is located.
Day – surgery (day hospital without an overnight stay in the clinic) or Hospitalization 1 day (1 night’s stay at the clinic)
